It does not seem all that strange or awkward when most prominent positions in the country are dominated by men. It would appear therefore that the right time has dawned for professionals to have their own platform, share experience and forge the best path forward. ICAM has, therefore, organized the first of its kind – the professional women’s conference to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from 9 – 10 March 2018.
Speaking when she was contacted to be guest of honour at the event, Dr. Agnes Chimbiri, Assistant Resident Representative for the UNDP acknowledged that ICAM has taken a bold step to stress the widening male-female divide.
Dr. Chimbiri shares her thoughts: ‘Sometimes even when women are asked to express interest in some matters, they do not come forthwith. In such a way we alienate ourselves from taking great strides in the development of countries.’
Dr. Chimbiri is expected to set the tone of the conference by delivering a key note address on the theme: breaking the barriers: unlocking doors to greatness.
Among the prominent ladies expected to share insights at the conference include Acting CEO for Standard Bank Temwani Simwaka, NCIC CEO Linda Phiri, Maria Msiska of EY, Nwazi Mnthambala from the Public Sector and Maggie Kasambara of KPMG.
Other speakers include former Toyota Malawi MD Rosemary Mkandawire, Graham Carr Managing Partner and former ICAM President Dorothy Ngwira, Hilda Singo of Malawi Telecommunications Limited and ICAM’s Director of Finance and Administration Bertha Misomali.
